Hey guys I had a great time at goodwill this weekend.  Here the first Saturday of the month everything is half price in the whole store.  Also we have rewards cards for the stores in and around Indianapolis that gets you 20% off  if you spend $20.00 or more.  So I had a really good time finding some really good deals.  Look at all the stuff I scored for $28.81.
a wine bottle holder for storage in carft room and a thread spool holder

10 books 1 set of wings and a halloween craft foam kit

2 clocks, a purdue glass, a dog water bowl, star molds, a liter glass pitcher, and a metal candle holder.

2 lazy susans and 1 two tiered lazy susan, 1 set of 3 spring draw organizers, a gift bag holder, a holder for craft stuff that has detatchable boxes to take on the go with you. and a glass canister with a lid.

These last three pictures are close ups of some of my better finds.

I am going to have to take one of the clocks back because it doesnt work.  But that does happen some times.
Happy Thrifting to you all.

Thrifty Thursday ( Soy Garlic Chicken)

Kroger had chicken legs on sale last week for 88 cents a pound. I picked up a large pack and decided to make them for dinner last night. I didn't want to do my usual recipe of just adding barbecue sauce so I made up a marindae to use. I thought it tasted pretty good and even the girls ate it ( they are super picky so this means a lot lol)

First thing I did was cut the skin off all the chicken legs
Then I mixed up 1/2 cup of soy sauce, a couple tablespoons of minced garlic and about 6 tbsp of melted butter. I poured it on top of the chicken legs.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Eat and Enjoy!!

Thrifty Thursday Body Scrub From the pantry

Hello everyone if you are like me you get really dry skin in the winter.  I have been itching like crazy because of dry skin.  So I decided to do something about it.  I made a body scrub using 3 simple ingredients that you probably have In your pantry right now.

Recipe
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
a few drops extract in your favorite sent.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.  If it is not moist enough add a little more olive oil.  Mine was fine with just the 1/4 cup. Then store in a plastic container in the shower. Scrub your body with it next time you shower it helps remove dead dry skin and add traps in much need moister from the oil.

This was so easy I let the children I babysit make some for their mom for her upcoming birthday.
these would make great gifts.

Thrifty Thursday ( Halloween Mystery Bucket)

My friend Jane and I are getting ready to host a Halloween Party for all the Daisy's and Brownie's in our service unit. We are expecting around 50 girls. Today I made a mystery bucket for one of the games. It was really easy. First I bought a bucket.
I put some fun stuff in it ( candy, small toys, etc)
I wrapped the outside with some green tissue paper
I cut out a black circle to cover the top. In the middle of the circle I cut out a square so they can rech down and get a prize. I taped some green tissue paper on it and cut it to make it fringed.

I cut the green paper around the edge to be fringed also.

thrifty thursday blue jean pumpkin

Blue jean pumpkin.  I did not take pictures for a step by step because this is so easy.
this is what you will need:
pair of old blue jeans with at least one leg to cut.
heavy thread and a needle
plastic bags

First find a old pair of blue jeans.  Cut off about a foot of the leg.  Make a running stitch around one end with heavy thread.  Now pull the thread to make the end close like you would to make a yo yo. Secure the thread so it doesn't come loose and tie it off.
Next stuff with plastic bags.
Then make another running stitch around the opening and pull it closed.  Secure and tie off the thread and you are done.  See how simple.

thrifty thursday hair dye

Hey everyone I hope you are having a great week.  Mindy and I have both been very busy getting ready for the craft show only a little over 2 weeks to go.  Mindy and I did manage to get our booth next to each other for the first show.  So we our both very excited about that.

Okay now to the thrifty part of this post.  I was at the dollar tree the other day.  And when I go in there I have to walk down every isle in the place.  Well while we were walking along I saw that they had hair dye.  I was very surprised and I decided to try one.  Since I always dye my hair red I went for the Medium Auburn 3RV.

Well I decided to try in on Sunday.  I got the best surprise on my life.  Now you have to understand I have always wanted my hair to be the color of a shine copper penny.  I am just to cheap to pay someone 40 or 50 dollars every 6 weeks to get the color.  So I was really surprised when I dried my hair to find that it was the color I have always wanted.

Not a very good picture of me but I love the color.  I love it so much that I had Scott stop and buy everylast one they had.  I got 9 boxes.  I was afraid they would run out and I love the color.  And for $1.00 a box you cant bet it.

I hope everone has a great rest of the week.  Tomorrow is Friday. Yes!!!!

Thrifty Thursday ( Fabric Pens)

I have been doing some sewing and I have a ton of scraps. I had no idea what to do with them so I went to Pintrest and found some neat ideas to decorate pens with fabric scraps. Everyone had their own way of doing it so I just combined them to  make it work for me.

First you need some ink pens, fabric scraps , thread and a hot glue gun.

Cut 2 pieces of fabric one 14 inches by 2 1/2 inches, the second one 11 inches by 2 inches.
Fold the fabric in half and cut slits all the way across. They don't need to be even but make sure you don't cut all the way to the top.
Using your thread and needle do a slip stitch all the way across.
Pull together to form a circle
Lay it out and tie a good knot to combine the ends together.

Do both pieces of fabric like this. Set aside.
Get you ink pen and put some hot glue at the very top
Wrap your pen and secure it with more hot glue at the end.
Cut both of your fabrics and set the larger one on a table that you can hot glue on. Put a good amount of hot glue around the middle of the circle.
Set the smaller circle on top of it and press down to secure.
Get your pen back out and put a good amount of hot glue around the top. Making sure the fabric still has the largest side on the bottom press down to the top of the pen. Hold tight to secure.

Let me know if you have any questions.  I would love to see pictures if you make any.

thrifty thursday clothes pin redo

Clothes pin redo.  Clothes pins are such versital things.  I have seen them turned in to many different things.  Tonight we are going to turn them in to frig magnets.
take a simple clothes pin

paint them red

let it dry and then paint red stripes on it

Let it dry again.  Then add magnets to the back I had self adhisive one but you can use anything you have on hand even cut up some of those magnets you get with advertisments on them.  Just glue them on with a strong glue.

thats it you are done.
Now you have a cute way to hold papers on the fridg or anywhere else a magnet will stick to.
Of course you can paint them any colors you want.  I was trying to get mine to look a little like candy canes
Hope you have a great night

Thrifty Thursday ( Fabric Rings)

I was bored today and was trying to think of a craft to do with all these small fabric scraps I have. I found an idea on Pintrest and changed it to fit me. This is what I came up.

First thing you need to do is cut a small piece of thin elastic. I didn't really measure it, I just wrapped it around my daughters finger.
Next cut a thin strip of fabric from your scraps.
Sew the ends of your elastic together and then sew one end of the fabric on.
Wrap the fabric around the elastic and then sew the other end of the fabric so that it is secure.
Use whatever kind of bead you have to decorate it.
Make sure you trim all the loose edges off (  I forgot to take pictures after I did that)
These take no time at all to make and are really cheap! My girls loved them !

thrifty thursday out of milk

Hey guys sorry there was no post yesterday.  I was suppose to do it but I had a asthma attach the first one in over a year.  But when I have to use the inhaler it makes me light headed.  So I didn't remember to blog.

Okay on to today's post.  We were making a pantry list the other weekend.  I had Scott helping me I was organizing and her was writing it all down so I could put it in an excel file later.  Well you know guys and their tech stuff.  So he was wanting a easier way to do it and he started looking at apps for his phone.  And he found an app called out of milk.  I was a little skeptical at first but I was willing to try it so he put it on my phone also.  Now I don't know how I ever lived with out it.

Okay here is how it works.  You go to the app and you can make lots of pantry list.  I have one for the pantry, freezer, fridge, fridge freezer, spice cabinet, and one for the bathroom.  I am thinking about doing one for my craft room also.   You can also go to the web sight http://www.outofmilk.com/  you can use it on your smart phone, the computer or both.  So you make your pantry list and them you update it as you use things from any of you pantry list.  When you need to make a shopping list you can go to your pantry and click on something you need and hit copy to shopping list.  If you know the price of the items you are buying it will keep a running total of how much you are spending with everything you add to your list.  This works great for me since most of my shopping is done at Aldi's.  So I was able to take a old receipt and use it to price most of my stuff.  I used it this weekend and it was right with in 2 dollars     Also if you are at the store and don't know if you have something in your pantry you can just call it up on your phone and see if you have it or not.  I cant say enough about this great app.  I love it.

Also look at the pictures of my nice organized pantry.

Thrifty Thursday ( Using up blue jeans)

We had a yard sale not to long ago and for some reason I decided to keep out the blue jeans instead of donating them to Goodwill. I finally dug them out yesterday and decided to try to make something with it. My Mother In law gave me her old sewing machine not to long ago so I have been trying to teach myself to do some simple sewing. I decided to make some blue jean bags.

First thing you need to do is cut a piece of blue jean fabric.
Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than the blue fabric to line your bag.
Sew the fabric so that it is face up on the inside of the blue jean fabric
Sew the bag together leaving the top of the bag open. Trim the edges up

Now you get to decorate your bag. I cut out flower shapes from my scrap blue jean material.
I added some of the fabric I had leftover on the inside of the flower and then added a strap to close the bag. I also put a strip of material across the top to give it some color.

For the handle I just used ribbon and sewed it on really well. I think it turned out cute and I went on to make a ton more bags. You can also just cut the pocket out of the jeans and decorate it also.

If you have any questions let me know. I can honestly say it is a cheap craft to do and if I can sew it I know you can lol. I love the lining on the inside of the bag. I thinks it adds a little something to it.
