kitchen redo 4

I didn't post anything Monday because not a lot got done that you could see Friday or the weekend.  Yesterday and this morning there was a lot more to see.  All the electrical boxes are roughed in ready to hook up when drywall is done.  My dishwasher is suppose to arrive some time afternoon today.  I did get the tile off one side of the kitchen.  Tonight I will try to get it cleaned a little and get tile off where cabinets are going on other side of kitchen.  We will probably get to go get cabinets on Thursday.

kitchen redo day 2

wow the ugly old kitchen is starting to go away.  It looks really bad today but I know it is a sign of progress.
All the upper cabinets are down and old sheet rock is down.

upper cabinets gone

wall in middle of kitchen going away

see how the walls have boards on either side of wall.  the insulation is between the boards.

Today the rest of the wall will go away. and maybe lower cabinets.  they did find some old termite damage and the wood is going to be replace with some good wood they took down.   At least now I know why they had such a hard time putting wall anchors in in the living room for the TV mount the boards on the wall.

kitchen redo day 1

A lot was accomplished on the kitchen remodel the first day.

there is a old door behind this wall

so it was opened up

I got a very wonderful surprise when we  took the door out wonderful hard wood floors

this opening was taking up so much wall space in the kitchen

so it was closed up.

as carpet was coming up we found more hardwood at that point I went in and checked living room under carpet and it is in there also.

also started removing the wall with a door that was in the middle of the kitchen
All in all a very good first day.  I am so happy about the hardwood flooring.  We had checked when I was getting ready to move in but checked in the closet not knowing that closet was an access to under the house so didn't have nice wood in it.  I was planning to put down laminate now I am going to save a lot of money on flooring.  I am going to check bedrooms soon.  I hate my bedroom carpet so please keep your fingers crossed for hardwood.

Kitchen make over

So I am having my kitchen remodeled.  Because it is the most nonfunctional kitchen I have ever been in.  Here are pictures to show you what I am starting with

this is pretty much all the counter space I have had for the last 8 months

there is also a large opening next to the stove leading in to dinning room

see the wall in the middle of the kitchen so lovely

this is what is on other side of wall
and this

here is a picture from one end of kitchen to other end.

So as you can see thanksgiving and Christmas were not fun cooking in this kitchen.

So we decided to close the big opening by the stove and reopen the door that was original to the home.
the wall in the middle of the room will be replace with a wooden beam for structural support.  the stove will pretty much stay where it is with cabinet and counter space on either side then the fridge will move to same wall stove is on.  Sink wall will have cabinets and counter from window to door.
wish me luck with all this

Cherry Fuff

I made a new dessert for Thanksgiving and it was really good. The best part is that it took no time at all to put together ( I did it during the commercial break for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!) It is one of those desserts that would be good from anything to a cookout to a holiday dinner.

Cherry Fluff
1 (21oz) can cherry pie filling-
 1(14oz) can sweetened condensed milk-
 1(20oz) can crushed pineapple, drained-
1 (8oz) container Cool Whip, thawed.
Combine all ingredients, chill at least 2 hrs.

Plastic Bag Holders

Here is another great craft to make with a small piece of fabric. Everyone needs a pretty place to store their plastic bags. I made a bunch of these for my craft show next week to!

Supplies Needed:
1 fat quarter
thread
1/4 in elastic about 6 inches long

Press your fat quarter so there are no creases. Next fold in half long ways.
Sew down the side leaving about a 4 inch opening at each end.
Fold the end of the fabric over and pin down. Repeat on other end of fabric.
Sew down .
Where the 2 pieces of fabric meet is where you are going to put your elastic through. The best way to do this is to use safety pins. Put a safety pin at the edge of your elastic.
I also pin the the other end of the elastic to my fabric so I don't lose it.
Work the elastic all the way around using the safety pin to hold on to. Sew the ends of the elastic together..

Repeat at the other end but sew your ribbon on first so you can hang it on the wall.
After the elastic is sewn on both sides turn inside out and your finished! So simple but so useful!
