Girl Scout Fall Festival

Saturday I hosted a Girl Scout Festival. Both my co-leader and I have planned many events for Girl Scouts but nothing quite like this. An event this size took lots of planning( we worked on it for months!) and quite a few volunteers ( that was the hardest part!)
We were very lucky that my co-leaders sister is very talented and made numerous displays for us. It gave the gym such a carnival fill!
The games were mostly made although a few were store bought. This helped us keep our cost down and made some of the games more unique!
We started the day off by setting up the entry way. This is where everyone checked in. After checking in the received a brown lunch bag that had all their tickets in it. The brown bag collected all the goodies they would collect.
Once we got them checked in into the gym they went. We had 15 games to play, a cake walk and a silent auction. They also got a bottle of water and a bag of popcorn. Extra tickets could be bought inside also.
The cake walk was right in the middle of the gym and the games lined the walls.
We had lots of photo ops sitting around to.

These were all hand painted ( not by me though lol).
We had some really fun games
Lucky cups ( guess what cup has the ball under it) Hug A Mug ( ring toss with the hug drinks)
Plinko and Paratrooper Landing ( the guys with the parachutes had to land on a plate to win a prize)
Sucker Tree and Chews Wisley(a bubble gum machine and the gum balls were made out of felt. Some of them had P's on the back and if they picked that one they got a prize)
 Bottle stand and Frizbee Toss
 Flip a Frog, Penny Pitch
 Bucket Toss

Feed the Elephant
Fish Bow, Tic Tac Tor and Can TossWe sold extra tickets

The Silent auction turned out to be huge!

We had 57 items!
My favorite part was the big box of popcorn!

I think everyone had a good time!

We ended up raising a nice amount of money for our Service Unit and it was worth all the hard work, If you have any questions about the games just let me know and will be more than happy to give you some more details!

Girl Scout Sit-Upons

I am getting ready to take my girl scout troop camping for the first time. We only have a few meetings before we go so we decided to start off with making sit-upons. If you don't know what a sit-upon is , it is a little seat made out of vinyl and quilt batting. They are used to keep your bottom dry while sitting on the ground ( not for comfort!). Here is how we made ours.

You need the following materials:
vinyl cut the size you want
quilt batting cut the same size
ribbon for the handle
duct tape

After cutting down the vinyl and quilt batting you will need to attach the ribbon for the handle before taping the sit-upon up. Take your piece of ribbon and string across the vinyl to the two sides that you want the ribbon attached to. Fold each end of the ribbon a couple of times and then tape down. Repeat on the other side.

When you have finished attaching the ribbon handle tape the outside of the sit-upon together. Make sure you tape it well so it will hold up when you are using it. Because ours was white we let the girls take sharpie markers to decorate theirs. They turned out so cute!

Whatever Wednesday ( Brownie Journey-Brownie Quest Session 2)

  • We are well underway with the Brownie Quest Journey at this point. I have a lot of things happen and didn't get this posted very quickly so I do apologize. This is how our meeting went:
  • The girls arrived and signed in. We had a a lot of girls absent at this meeting due to all the sickness going around.
  • We opened the meeting with the Pledge, Promise and  Law
  • For our first activity we talked about the Family Stars the girls had worked with their families on at home. We took a moment to pass them around the table so everyone got a chance to see.
  • For our second activity I had the girls guess what the name of the key that we just discovered was. It took them a little bit of time to guess it but good clues will help them a lot!
  • The girls then did page 52 in their books
  • For our third activity we played a game called All Aboard. This is a team building activity. What I did was bring in a large tablecloth . I put it in the middle of the floor and told the girls they had to stand on it. Once they were on I made them get off and folded it in half. We kept doing this until they no longer could figure out a way to get all of them on it. You can make up your own rules on how to do it ( such as they can't talk, etc). They had a great time doing this!
  • We went back to the table and talked about how this involved team work.
  • We created a Brownie Troop Agreement and then the girls did page 53 in their books
  • To end the meeting we talked about Healthy Living ( pg 62 in leader book) and talked about the pictures shown on pages 54 and 55 in the girls books.

Hey everyone Stephanie here.  Take a look at what Mindy front room looked like a few weekends ago.

Mindy is the cookie mom for her daughters daisy troop.  So she has a house full of cookies.  Well seeing all these cookies got me thinking I bet there are some great recipes out there using girls scout cookies.
So for the next week or two I am going to be search the web for recipes that use girl scout cookies and post links here.
